Richmond WWTP Process Optimization

Optimizing plant configurations and procedures

The City of Richmond, Texas was experiencing significant foam accumulation in the aeration basins of both WWTPs operated by the City. Garver made site visits and evaluated the existing configuration, operation data, and process control methods at both WWTPs and identified solutions to eliminate the foaming issues. Based on the data collected, we performed calculations of the current operating parameters to optimize the operations in the plant’s current configuration. This inexpensive process optimization study yielded straightforward recommendations for plant operations (zero capital cost) that allowed the City to stop feeding de-foaming chemical. We also provided recommendations that resulted in energy savings, sludge hauling savings, and reduced chlorine feed. The project culminated in Garver delivering a spreadsheet-based tool to assist operators with process control and staying within ideal ranges for plant operations.
