SAWS Clouse Chlorine

Upgrading disinfection methods for improved quality

Garver provided preliminary engineering, design, and bid and construction phase services for disinfection (chlorine and sulfur dioxide) improvements to San Antonio Water System’s 125 MGD Steven M. Clouse Water Recycling Center (WRC). Options for the removal and replacement of the chlorine and sulfur dioxide systems within the existing disinfection and dechlorination buildings were evaluated, while design included the upgraded systems, including new cylinder storage equipment, evaporators, chlorinators, interconnecting piping, and safety equipment. The project also included the removal and replacement of chlorine and sulfur dioxide yard piping, six chlorine injector stations, a sulfur dioxide injector station, and replacement of electrical, instrumentation, and controls equipment. Garver also developed construction sequencing alternatives, including phased construction of the improvements while the existing chlorine and sulfur dioxide systems remained in use.
