Although it was important to get the pump in and working, it was just as important to make sure that we can work on it later. At some point in the future, we're going to have to provide long-term maintenance to the motor and pump, and Garver's design took into account CAW's need to pull and refurbish the system.

Alongside CDM Smith and CP&Y, Garver recently completed field operations of a UV pilot of ultraviolet disinfection processes to evaluate replacement of the Trinity River Authority's current chlorination/dechlorination facilities at the 162 MGD Central Regional Wastewater System. The first phase of the...

High arsenic levels within drinking water have forced cities to shut down their supply wells, resulting in the surrender of expensive infrastructure and accumulation of idle assets. Norman, Okla. is one such municipality that lost half of its well field. Rather than accept this forfeiture, city leaders...

Dennis Yarbro studied the room and knew it would be a tight fit. Yarbro, the supervisor of water resources at Central Arkansas Water's Lake Maumelle Intake Pump Station, was overseeing the addition of a new 30-million-gallons-per-day vertical turbine pump. He looked up to the two-story ceiling and hoped...

Searcy, Ark. has increased its water treatment plant's capacity by nearly 30 percent. To upgrade the intake, treatment and distribution systems, the city worked with Garver to guide the plant through regulatory requirements and grant funding stipulations. "Before this project, we were bumping up against...

A new water-softening treatment plant in Tuscumbia, Ala. is the state's first water utility to use a blended series membrane process. The state-of-the-art filtration technology is the centerpiece of a new 4 million gallons-per-day (MGD) water treatment plant. The system is purifying and softening...

For the Central Oklahoma Master Conservancy District (COMCD) and the City of Norman, Garver recently completed design of a new 48-inch raw water conveyance line from Lake Thunderbird to the Vernon Campbell Water Treatment Plant. Lake Thunderbird and the Norman raw water conveyance system were originally...

The Mountain Home, Arkansas Water Treatment Plant had the ability to treat 8 million gallons per day and was nearing 80 percent of its rated capacity. The existing filters at the plant utilized "old" technology dating back to 1969, and the basins contained a dual media of anthracite and sand. With newer...

Garver provided structural, civil, process, and mechanical engineering services for the design of a 40-million-gallon-per-day high-service pump station at Central Arkansas Water's (CAW) Jack H. Wilson Water Treatment Plant. CAW's new high-service pumping station required two years of planning and...
