2023 PROWAG Unpacked: Navigating New Standards in Pedestrian Accessibility
Public right-of-way serves many types of users and functions and is critical for communities across the nation. Public Right-of-Way Accessibility Guidelines (PROWAG) provide clear and consistent approach to pedestrian facility needs, addressing accessibility standards per the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Architectural Barriers Act (ABA). Over the past decade, these guidelines have gone through review and comments from regulated entities, including state and local governments, and a final rule was published August 2023. The last updates have been in effect since 2013, so what are the changes, how have projects been changing so far, and what does that mean for your current and future projects? In this presentation, Laura Friello discusses the practical approaches for projects in design as well as impacts for future projects.
