Traffic Noise Studies and Impact
Highway traffic noise is a required component of many transportation projects and plays a meaningful role in environmental clearance, design decisions, and stakeholder expectations. Understanding how noise studies fit into the project lifecycle can help teams plan more effectively and avoid surprises later on.
In this presentation, Garver provided a high level understanding of highway traffic noise, when and why noise analyses are required, and how they fit within the broader transportation and environmental process. We’ll touch on the basics of the noise study process, highlight where GIS and cross discipline coordination make a difference, and share a few examples from real projects.
