Are you an engineering leader who is successfully delivering major transportation project for Missouri DOT (MoDOT)? If so, we have an opportunity for you: we’re looking for a Transportation Practice Leader to join our growing team from anywhere in Missouri and to build and oversee a dynamic portfolio of profitable roadway and transportation projects for MoDOT.
In this role, you’ll be responsible for the operational and strategic direction of a highly talented team. You’ll be in charge of building relationships with clients, project management and delivery, and profitable growth. You’ll have the full support of Garver’s tools and resources, and you’ll have the autonomy to run a business within a business. With that support and autonomy, you’ll be well-positioned to be an effective seller-doer, balancing business development with team and project management.
What you’ll do:
- Lead business development activities, including direct client interaction and engagement
- Procure, manage, and execute transportation projects as needed
- Providing civil design and technical competency as a project leader and technical advisor on transportation projects
- Manage projects, coordinating with sub-consultants, scheduling projects/tasks, negotiating and developing contract scope and fees, preparing cost estimates, planning production oversight, managing design team members
- Participate in marketing activities, such as proposal and letter of interest production, interviews, and other presentations
- Foster collaboration between design teams and specialized service providers
What you’ll bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET accredited program
- Professional Engineer Licensure (PE) in the state of Missouri or the ability to obtain reciprocity within six months
- 10 or more years of experience managing diverse transportation and roadway projects, with a successful track record of delivering large scale MoDOT projects
- Working knowledge of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Green Book, the Roadside Design Guide, the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM), the Manual Uniform Traffic Control Device (MUTCD), and MoDOT design manuals and processes
- Experience with MicroStation, Geopak, InRoads, and/or other roadway design software
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated team leadership skills, including the ability to recruit, develop. mentor, and oversee a highly motivated team, coordinate and balance workload with other regional teams, and present team portfolio performance to senior management
- Demonstrated project management skills, including the ability to prepare scope-of-work and level-of-effort estimates for contract proposals, and to lead and manage a team for successful execution of contracted scope, budget, and schedule
Bonus points if you bring these, too:
- 15 or more years of team management experience, including experience leading roadway and transportation projects
- Technical experience in geometric design for roadways/interchanges, drainage design (closed and open systems), construction sequencing and traffic control, and utility relocation coordination
- Previous experience in consulting engineering with a primary focus on MoDOT (or other DOT) transportation projects
- Experience with Bentley OpenRoads Designer
- 3D modeling experience
