Garver is seeking a Project Engineer or Senior Project Engineer with 5-10 years of experience to join our Municipal Transportation Team in Austin, TX. In this role, you will lead the design and delivery of roadway, drainage, and multimodal transportation projects for municipal clients across Central Texas while supporting project management, client relationships, and staff mentorship. This position offers a clear path for growth into increased project management, client management, and leadership responsibilities within Garver's expanding Municipal Transportation practice.
Responsibilities in this position will include:
- Lead the design and delivery of municipal transportation projects.
- Prepare and review roadway, drainage, utility coordination, and PS&E packages in accordance with municipal, TxDOT, and applicable local agency standards.
- Support and/or manage project scope, schedule, budget, quality, and client communication.
- Build and maintain relationships with clients, agencies, utility companies, and project stakeholders.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to EITs and junior engineers.
- Review engineering calculations, reports, design plans, and construction documents prepared by junior staff.
- Support construction administration activities, including RFIs and submittal reviews.
- Serve as a Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) Subject Matter Expert (SME) for reviewing project deliverables.
- Assist the Business Team Leader and Project Manager with marketing efforts, including proposal writing, client interactions, and public engagement activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Texas or ability to obtain Texas PE within six months.
- 5-10 years of transportation or municipal engineering experience.
- Experience with municipal roadway and infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of TxDOT, AASHTO, MUTCD, ADA/PROWAG, and local agency design standards and criteria.
- Experience developing construction plans and engineering estimates.
- Proficiency with OpenRoads/MicroStation and/or Civil 3D.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Experience coordinating with multidisciplinary project teams.
- Ability to lead a design team to meet a deliverable schedule within a defined budget.
- MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) proficiency.
Preferred Skills
- Experience working with Central Texas agencies, including Austin-area municipalities, counties, or TxDOT.
- Experience delivering projects through municipal capital improvement programs (CIPs).
- Project management experience with responsibility for scope, schedule, and budget.
- Experience with roadway widening and reconstruction, intersection improvements, complete streets, sidewalks, shared-use paths, trails, and multimodal transportation projects.
- Drainage and utility coordination experience.
- Familiarity with TxDOT Local Government Project Procedures (LGPP).
- Experience preparing Water Pollution Abatement Plans (WPAPs).
- Proposal development and business development experience.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop junior engineering staff.
- Bentley OpenRoads Designer proficiency.
- PTOE, ENV SP, CCM, or other relevant professional certifications.
