As a member of Garver’s growing Harlingen Water Infrastructure Design Center, the CAD Production Designer will be responsible for developing the drafting and design for projects while mentoring Technicians. The Production Designer will also be responsible for leading the production of 3D models and maintaining Civil3D/BIM/MicroStation standards for Garver’s Water Infrastructure Design Center. The Production Designer will collaborate with engineers, production & design leaders, other designers, and technicians to produce drawings and manage workload on various Water Business Line (WBL) projects.
This role in the Water Infrastructure Design Center is one that is central to project delivery through our many offices and utilizes the latest design software/technologies, predominantly Revit, Civil3D, and MicroStation software. Typical projects in design include civil, process mechanical, structural, building mechanical, and architectural designs for water and wastewater facilities.
This position will be responsible for performing a wide array of design tasks related to water and wastewater facilities, such as:
- Coordination of survey services and processing field data
- Developing surface models
- Developing paving/grading plans, yard piping/pipeline plans, demolition plans, modified plans, etc.
- Developing yard piping profiles, pipeline profiles, drainage profiles, cross sections, etc.
- Calculating dirt work volume and plan quantities
- Creating and using layering standards, line types, line widths, and plot styles
- Creating and organizing project setup drawings, base files, general sheets, title blocks, and Plex-Earth
- Organizing drawing structures and files
- Producing record drawings
Primary responsibilities of the CAD Production Designer will include:
- Maintain Drawing Sheet List
- Develop understanding of expected sheets based on project phase
- Adhere to an array of client driven CAD/Design standards
- Developing 3D models with a great deal of autonomy
- Quality program compliance, including ensuring delivery of quality work products that adhere to Garver standardization.
- Civil standards, details, and tools development, procurement, and training
- Work within a multi-disciplined team (civil, process, structural, mechanical, electrical, and I&C) of engineers, production & design leaders, designers, and technicians in the development of various Water Business Line projects.
- Manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Time management and work product quality.
- Coordinate resources for assigned projects.
- Develop markups working with the engineers.
- Distribute and coordinate workload with assigned Technicians.
- Review the work of your assigned Technicians and serve as their mentor.
- Provide thorough review of every plan sheet for assigned projects to ensure all projects adhere to company standards, prior to engineers’ review.
- Participate in peer-to-peer reviews
- Mentor, equip, train, develop, and engage junior team members to become effective design professionals and undertake increasingly more complex assignments and responsibilities as they grow.
Due to the collaborative nature of coordination for large infrastructure projects, candidates must have the ability to seek out and resolve issues through close interaction with other project team members. In addition, the candidate must be able to maintain a positive team attitude and interpersonal effectiveness to recruit, develop and maintain an efficient and productive team.

The Water Infrastructure Design Center is a knowledge-based hub that excels in highly technical, multi-discipline water and wastewater designs for locations all across Garver’s footprint. The WIDC was created to bring together every unique discipline necessary to design custom solutions for water and wastewater infrastructure facilities, including civil, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, controls, construction, applications, and operations. Having a focused team with in-person collaboration using the latest 3D and 4D BIM/Civil3D/MicroStation software leads to more efficient delivery, shorter design schedules, and lower change order percentages.
Requirements:
The successful candidate for this role with Garver will possess the following minimum requirements:
- 5 or more years of computer aided drafting and design experience with a civil engineering design team
- Strong knowledge base in the use of either Civil3D, Revit, or MicroStation software
- Strong knowledge base of water & wastewater pipeline and/or pump station design
- Experience with site development including grading, paving, drainage, and piping
- Experience with water/wastewater, architectural, industrial, or commercial designs
- General understanding of various building types
- Experience with multi-discipline CAD designs (i.e. piping, structural, electrical, I&C, controls, mechanical, HVAC, process)
- Experience with MS Office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
- Associates degree in CAD or similar 2-year degree
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with BIM360/ACC file sharing software
- Experience using Bluebeam
- Experience using ArcMap
- Experience using StormCAD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS
- Experience with point clouds and point cloud processing with ReCap
- Bachelor’s degree in civil, environmental, or biosystems/agricultural or related engineering discipline.
