The Garver Water Team is looking for an experienced Startup & Commissioning Specialist to oversee the startup of water and wastewater facilities nationwide. The successful candidate will manage the commissioning and startup activities for various water and wastewater projects, from final construction stages on through to project closeout. This role involves leading diverse startup projects, guiding testing and commissioning teams, building and maintaining excellent client relationships, participating in industry activities and events, and contributing to the growth and development of the team through mentorship. This position may include a variety of projects related to:
- Water, wastewater, and reuse treatment facilities
- Wells, pumping facilities, and storage
- Improvements to, and retrofitting of, existing water and wastewater infrastructure facilities
Responsibilities may include, but not limited to the following:
- Display technical competency of water or wastewater operations and maintenance
- Perform operational risk assessments for new and existing water and wastewater treatment facilities
- Concurrently manage multiple startup projects
- Be responsible for time management and work product quality
- Conduct written and oral project reporting for clients
- Prepare and execute Quality Assurance and Quality Control Plans
- Facilitate and lead internal and external project workshops
- Be an active learner responsible for continuing education and learning based on project requirements, as well as overall needs of the team
- Provide construction management assistance, as needed
- Periodic travel will be required on an as-needed basis for projects, conferences, marketing, and other duties.
- Professional and career development while attending industry conferences as a subject matter expert on behalf of Garver and the Water Business Line.
- Facilitate utility stakeholder engagement activities
- Interface with regulatory agencies, as required
- Manage quality assurance and risk management activities
- Progress tracking and communications
- Oversee and manage owner training activities
- Coordinate startup and commissioning tasks and participate in acceptance testing for a variety of systems including package systems, process control systems, and SCADA systems
- Support business development activities
- Assist with detailed project delivery assumption, scope of work, level of effort, and associated man-hour estimates
Requirements
- 5+ years of water and/or wastewater technical project operations or engineering experience
- Experience in reading and interpreting treatment facility design drawings, including I&C and electrical diagrams, mechanical drawings, specifications, and engineering systems shop drawings.
Preferred Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering from an ABET accredited program
- 10+ years of water and/or wastewater technical project operations or engineering experience
- Registered as a Professional Engineer (PE)
- Previous experience having been in responsible charge of facility startups and commissioning and management level treatment plant operations
- Strong understanding of multi-disciplined engineering practices (i.e., treatment process, mechanical, treatment chemical feed systems, electrical, instrumentation and control) required for the startup and commissioning of water and wastewater facilities.
