Arkansas Water Conference
Hot Springs | May. 01-04
Since 1931 the common goal of the members of the Arkansas Water Works and Water Environment Association has been to provide clean water. The organization hosts an annual conference for those actively engaged in the design, management, operation and control of water works systems. Garver is excited for the valuable opportunities to meet, learn, and network with other water professionals from throughout the state.

“It Needs To Be Off-Line for How Long?” Proactive Shutdown Planning Eases Concerns With Construction Schedules
This presentation will cover the proactive approach used by a North Texas utility to reduce concerns associated with replacement of the primary supply facility for the City’s main pressure plane. It will outline the approach used to address concerns, as well as highlight the results of the evaluations.
Speaker: Planning and Modeling Team Leader Evan Tromble. Ph.D., PE

Advanced Pipeline Condition Assessment Technologies for Wastewater Systems
Pipeline condition assessment plays a vital role in a municipality’s asset management program. Most condition assessment data collection for gravity pipelines is performed using CCTV (Closed Circuit Television) equipment, which provides a basic, non-quantitative visual impression of overall pipeline condition that is both cost effective and readily available. Advances in pressure pipe inspection technology have led to the development of multi-sensor systems capable of providing comprehensive condition assessment information for force mains that will be discussed.
Speaker: Infrastructure Practice Leader Jeff Maier, PE

Do You Need an Asset Management Program or Asset Management-Based Plan
This presentation will provide some background and explanation of an Asset Management “Program" with a focus on the information and practical implementation of a utility utilizing an asset management approach to optimize their programs and planning.
Speaker: Central Region Water Director Randy McIntyre, PE, BCEE
10:45 a.m.
Wet Weather Flows: Squeeze Every Drop Out Existing Infrastructure with Holistic Wet Weather Treatment Evaluations
The presentation will discuss the insights gained into the Springdale Water Utilities Water Reclamation Facility and provide valuable insight to any entity that is looking to evaluate capacity of existing facilities, maximize capacity of existing infrastructure, and will highlight a collaborative process to actively engage wastewater operators in making design and facility planning decisions.
Speaker: Water Design Center Leader Andy Pruitt, PE

Hidden Capacity in Your Wastewater Interceptors? How Non-Uniform Flow Modeling Can Impact Pipe Sizing
Hydraulic modeling to account for non-uniform flow conditions in gravity interceptors can uncover capacity that is not realized when evaluations are completed using application of Manning’s equation. This presentation will show how to uncover hidden capacity in existing interceptors and optimize sizing on future capital improvements.
Speaker: Planning and Modeling Team Leader Evan Tromble. Ph.D., PE

Manhole Rehabilitation Good Practices
An overview of recommended technical design considerations, quality assurance/ quality control criteria, and good practices to help promote successful trenchless manhole rehabilitation in wastewater collection systems will be presented. The presentation will cover resin‐based polymer coating/ lining systems including epoxies, polyurethanes and poly-ureas, cementitious materials, cured in place lining systems, and fully structural composite technologies.
Speaker: Infrastructure Practice Leader Jeff Maier, PE

Lead and Copper Rule Revisions and an Approach Towards Compliance
The Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR) will impact public water systems throughout the United States. This presentation will include a brief overview of major LCRR requirements and practical steps that water systems of all sizes can take now to prepare for compliance.
Speaker: Distribution System Water Quality Practice Leader Ashley Pifer, Ph.D., PE and Sharon Sweeney (Central Arkansas Water)

Phasing For Your Future - How One Utility Took a Proactive Approach in a Reactive Environment to Meet Demands When They Happen
As the water and wastewater infrastructure across the United States begins to age, utilities are finding that there is a daunting task ahead of them to keep up current needs and plan for the future. Keeping an eye on the future, communities can develop a plan to not only rehabilitate their existing facilities but develop phasing and growth plans. This presentation will provide a background on development of treatment plant replacement and phasing plans and look at how Garver has assisted similar communities across the region.
Speakers: Arkansas Water Team Leader Jerry Martin, PE and Process Group Leader Rusty Tate, PE

Setting the Right Water Loss Targets: Dropping Percent Production
The AWWA Water Loss Control Committee (WLCC) has provided new best practices for water loss Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) alongside the release of the newest version of its free water audit software in December 2020. These water loss KPIs can be used by water utilities, regulators, and other stakeholders to track water loss and set goals. This presentation will review the newest KPI recommendations, including why using percent production is no longer recommended.
Speaker: Project Manager Josef Dalaeli, PE

GIS is Closer Than You Think
The maturity of GIS software, the proliferation of internet-connected devices, survey-grade GPS devices, and the availability of high-quality base datasets have all combined to create an environment where accurately mapping your system has never been easier. This presentation will detail Garver’s work across both water and wastewater systems focusing on how GIS has led to new realizations or system improvements in innovate ways.
Speaker: Senior GIS Analyst Drew Moffitt, GISP

Understanding the Factors Affecting Algae Blooms for Better Management of Taste and Odor Compounds and Cyanotoxins
This presentation will discuss the on-going efforts at Conway Corporation’s raw water and treatment system to draw connections between various water quality indicators that can be tracked and responded to, in order to provide great tasting water to drinking water consumers.
Speakers: Senior Project Manager Paul Strickland, PE and Trevor Voegele, E.I. (Conway Corporation)
