Nashville International Airport Hangar Development

Expanding The Possibilities

Garver has had a working relationship with Nashville International Airport for more than a decade, assisting Tennessee's largest airport with runway and taxiway rehabilitations and the development of a geothermal cooling system. But the recently completed maintenance, repair, and overhaul hangar development broke new ground when Garver provided services well beyond that of a traditional airfield design project.

The end result is a new MRO hangar that serves as the first vertical construction project delivered by Garver to the airport. The hangar covers 55,000 square feet, includes 25,000 square feet of shop space, a 1,300-foot-long taxiway for runway access, a 100,000 square foot apron and a 130-stall parking lot. To accommodate these improvements, the Garver team had to transform a previously developed hillside into flat airfield by relocating 327,000 cubic yards of rock and soil.

"This development is a major step for the future of the airport," said Aviation Team Leader Matt Koss. "This type of large facility provides financial benefits to the airport and its tenants, while also creating new employment opportunities for the residents of middle Tennessee."

Garver provided lead design services for the project, which required work across multiple disciplines, including site and airfield civil, electrical, and fire protection engineering, interior architecture, and project management.
