I-269 South Loop in North Mississippi

An approximately 14-mile segment of I-269 in north Mississippi will boost economic development in that region while also providing a more efficient and safe route for those traveling through a major metropolitan area.

The four-lane controlled access interstate stretches through DeSoto and Marshall counties making it easier for trucking traffic to avoid congestion in downtown Memphis, Tennessee by looping around the city’s east side.

Garver’s role in the project, which covers approximately 6 1/2 miles, began in 2007 and included both preliminary right-of-way and final construction plans. Garver provided surveying, roadway, bridge, traffic, and ITS design services. The section featured an interchange with SR 309 north of Byhalia, and six grade separation structures.

“This highway greatly improves the efficiency and safety of both local and regional travelers, particularly with the opportunity to bypass a busy downtown area,” said Garver Transportation Team Leader Steve Haynes. “It will benefit the economy of north Mississippi for years to come.”

In addition to a developmental boost to the area, it will eventually be a part of an interstate loop stretching from Hernando, Mississippi to Millington, Tennessee; and on a larger scale, is part of I-69 that will stretch from Laredo, Texas to Port Huron, Michigan.
