Innovation is spelled APD
No longer an “alternative,” APD is crucial to large infrastructure projects.
Alternative Project Delivery, or APD, drives innovation in a new direction and offers a more streamlined delivery compared to the traditional approaches. And while APD isn’t new to Garver, the firm has taken a step toward offering clients the best approach for complicated infrastructure projects with a specialized APD Team possessing expertise in a variety of delivery methods.
“The team creates a consolidated knowledge base. It acts as a clearinghouse so we can track best practices and quickly scale up for very large or complicated projects.”

Alternative Project Delivery Lead
The rapidly growing APD Team acts as a central point of contact at Garver. Experts spread across the country combine their knowledge of best delivery practices and help to match projects to the right delivery method with a full understanding of a client’s goals.
“We try to help our clients make informed decisions by helping them really understand the process and providing them the right information when they need it,” said APD Technical Lead Mike Wawszkiewicz, PE.
A current point of emphasis is progressive delivery methods, such as Progressive Design-Build, Construction Manager/General Contractor, or Construction Management-At Risk. These methods, among other benefits, open lines of communication early in the process, leading to a more accurate price tag. But other methods like Public-Private Partnership, Design-Build-Finance, or Design-Build-Finance-Maintain, could be what is needed, too.
What does it mean for clients? It means access to one more tool in Garver’s toolbox.
“Garver has exceptional resources, exceptional relationships, and cares deeply about their client’s success,” Sheets said. “This team provides project managers and clients with another tool for project delivery.”
