Garver honored for its professional development strategies

For a century, Garver has enhanced communities across the country by delivering innovative engineering services with exemplary customer service. That starts with a dedication to hire the most qualified employees, and support their development as engineers along the way.

Garver was recently recognized in two different states for its contributions to the advancement and improvement of the industry through its professional development practices. The Mississippi Engineering Society presented Garver with its Private Practice Professional Development Award at its annual winter meeting, and the Wichita Society of Professional Engineers recently selected Garver to receive its Professional Development Award.

“Garver’s commitment to its employees doesn’t end when we’re hired. It continues as long as you’re a part of our family,” said Transportation Project Manager Wayne Black, one of three from Garver to accept the award from the Mississippi Engineering Society. “I benefited from this approach when I was hired, and I see our young employees grow every day because of it now.”

Among its 28 offices in 11 states across the country, Garver has two in Mississippi – Jackson and Olive Branch – and two in Wichita, Kansas, providing from those offices services for aviation, construction, federal, and transportation projects.

To enhance Garver’s engineering staff, the company has several initiatives aimed at providing mentoring and training to its young employees. Garver Launch, the company’s comprehensive internship program,   provides on-the-job experiences and guidance through assigned mentors. The program has been touted by employees as providing communication and problem-solving skills while learning valuable experience working within a team.

In addition, Garver’s in-house training program, Garver U, provides employees regular technical training to staff on subjects like project management, specific focus areas, and advancing through the industry for young professionals.
