Martin receives honors from AWEA and Arkansas Shovelers
Arkansas Water Team Leader Jerry Martin, PE, recently received two distinguished honors at a meeting of the Arkansas Water Environment Association (AWEA), one of which was being elected AWEA vice president. As AWEA vice president, Martin will assist in overseeing the statewide nonprofit, which increases the knowledge of both water quality systems and the water environment in Arkansas.
He was also inducted into the Arkansas Select Society of Sanitary Sludge Shovelers (AR 5S), which has inducted only 96 individuals since 1982 and only one other from Garver, Ron Pierce, in 1983. This select group honors those who have dedicated their career to serve as advocates for advancing the treatment and handling of water and wastewater. Over Martin’s career, he has made key contributions to the industry, making him a prime choice for AR 5S to select as one of their newest members.
With these honors, Martin has further solidified his position as an influential figure in Arkansas’ water and wastewater industry. In May 2020, he was elected to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Public Health Advisory Board, a diverse group representing education, state government, health care, and law, promoting the well-being of communities through education, research, and service. He also serves on the Water Environment Federation Membership Committee and as the Exhibit Chair for the Arkansas Water Conference.
“I’m truly honored by this recognition from AWEA and the Arkansas Shovelers and count it as one of my top honors,” Martin said. “But more than anything, I view it as an opportunity to continue my growth as a professional in this exciting field and give back to this state which has given me so much.”
An Arkansas native, Martin holds both graduate and undergraduate degrees from the University of Arkansas. His extensive experience with plant operations and maintenance has enabled him to create long-term, customized solutions to solve municipalities’ most challenging water and wastewater treatment concerns.
