Cusick and Upchurch selected for 2026-2027 ACEC Texas Leadership Academy
Garver leaders Thomas Cusick and Mark Upchurch will join a statewide cohort of emerging engineering professionals focused on leadership, strategy, and business development.
The American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Texas has selected Garver Traffic Safety and Operations Regional Leader Thomas Cusick, PE, PTOE, and Aviation Leader Mark Upchurch, PE, for its 2026-2027 Texas Leadership Academy.
The ACEC Texas Leadership Academy is a leadership development program designed for young principals and emerging leaders within member firms. Through four two-day sessions, participants gain insight into leadership, business management, strategic thinking, and the external factors shaping the engineering industry. The program also provides opportunities to collaborate and network with peers from across Texas while strengthening skills in emotional intelligence, strategic planning, and leadership effectiveness.
"I'm honored to be selected for the ACEC Texas Leadership Academy and grateful for the opportunity to learn alongside other emerging leaders from across the state," Cusick said. "I'm looking forward to gaining new perspectives on leadership, strengthening my understanding of the business side of our industry, and bringing those insights back to Garver and our clients."
Cusick serves as Garver's Traffic Safety and Operations Regional Leader, supporting transportation projects across Texas and the South-Central Region. He works with agencies to improve safety, mobility, and operational efficiency through innovative traffic engineering and transportation solutions.
"The ACEC Texas Leadership Academy offers a unique opportunity to learn from experienced industry leaders and build relationships with peers across Texas," Upchurch said. "I'm excited to further develop my leadership skills and explore new ways to better serve our clients, communities, and team members."
Upchurch serves as an Aviation Leader for Garver, helping airports across Texas and beyond plan, design, and deliver infrastructure improvements that support long-term growth and economic development. He is passionate about mentoring team members and partnering with clients to develop solutions tailored to their communities' needs.
Participants will graduate from the program in November 2026.
Cusick and Upchurch join Transportation Team Leader Al Lopez, PE, and Field Services Texas Director Dakota Zimmerman, PE, CQM-C, as Garver employees to participate in the ACEC Texas Leadership Academy.
