The Evolving Role of UV Light in Water Treatment

PRESENTER: Karl G. Linden, Ph.D., BCEEM, Mortenson Professor in Sustainable Development, University of Colorado Boulder

Ultraviolet light has emerged as an effective and appropriate process for meeting multiple water quality goals, filling in where other technologies fall short. Significant water treatment failures over the past 20 years have illuminated vulnerabilities in our conventional treatment trains and UV technology has found its place filling many of those voids. Within this framework, UV applications in water and wastewater treatment will be explored, highlighting the physics, biology and engineering that make UV an effective treatment process.
