Biological Process Intensification
PRESENTER: Wastewater Practice Leader Sean Scuras, Ph.D., PE, BCEE
Increasing capacity of the biological processes at WWTPs requires operating with more biomass. Traditional approaches to this are to add aeration basins and/or clarifiers which can be expensive and require an expanded WWTP footprint. Process intensification approaches increase biological process capacity, including BNR, without expanding the footprint. This presentation describes the major approaches to process intensification, how they work, and pros and cons of each.
