Garver welcomes Alan Shubert to lead New Mexico team

Alan Shubert

Garver has an exciting new addition to meet the growing demand for water services in New Mexico: Alan Shubert joins Garver as a Senior Project Manager to continue Garver’s work in New Mexico and establish a Garver office in Albuquerque.

Shubert has a strong background in project engineering and construction management on both sides of the fence. Earlier in his career, Shubert spent fourteen years as a senior construction engineer in the petroleum refining industry for projects across the nation. Now, after eight years as Vice President of El Paso Water and eleven years working at the City of El Paso as City Engineer and Director of Engineering, he is transitioning to a new role. With his decades of experience in El Paso and beyond, Shubert has a deep understanding of the southwestern region and the client perspective.

Which is why Garver’s West Texas Water Business Team Leader, Tina Hanson, knew Shubert was the right person to drive the development of Garver’s New Mexico presence. “Having worked in the public and private sector as well as construction and fabrication, Alan brings a unique perspective to Garver. We’re excited to see the positive impact he’ll have on our team and the communities we serve,” Hanson said.

Although Shubert spent a majority of his career in El Paso, New Mexico is familiar territory for him. He was born and raised in northeastern New Mexico, and he’s eager to connect with local clients.

This comes naturally for Shubert, having been in their shoes. With over thirty years of experience as a client himself, Shubert has a deep understanding of their needs. He understands firsthand what clients want and the challenges they face.

Shubert also brings a keen awareness of the unique challenges of New Mexico utilities. One significant challenge Shubert is ready to take on is helping clients obtain funding. Shubert is aware that New Mexico clients experience the same challenges as higher populated states, but often with less resources and funding. He looks forward to empowering clients and tackling the interesting, challenging market, step by step.

After all, Shubert takes a grounds-up approach to project work that has led to his success over the years. “I’m a builder by nature. I love being in the room when we’re putting a project together,” Shubert said.

And he values the importance of finding the right people, thinking of his success in terms of sports. He said, “I liken my role to a coach in terms of the engineering world. The key is having the right players on the team.”

Just like an enthusiastic coach before the start of a new season, Shubert is excited to assist clients in New Mexico to bring clean, safe water to his community. He said, “I think it’ll be fun to springboard Garver’s current work in the area to new clients and projects.”
