Kansas City Star publishes Hudlemeyer’s reflection on the significance of water in our daily lives
The Kansas City Star published an insightful article by Garver Water Infrastructure Team Lead Brooke Hudlemeyer, PE, ENV SP, for Imagine a Day Without Water, highlighting the crucial role water plays in our daily lives and the importance of protecting this vital resource for future generations.
Imagine a Day Without Water, led by the U.S. Water Alliance, is an annual event that encourages us to reflect on how integral water is to our lives and how we can work together to safeguard it.
In the article, Hudlemeyer shares her perspective as a water engineer who spends her days designing and implementing the systems that ensure Kansas City has clean, dependable water. Her work involves analyzing sewer mains, designing water and sewer main rehab and replacement projects, designing water and wastewater treatment plant improvements, and ensuring quality assurance, all with the ultimate goal of providing the community with safe water. Hudlemeyer understands the challenges facing the water industry, and she has solutions — as well as common sense tips.
To safeguard our water sources, Hudlemeyer emphasizes the importance of proper disposal of household chemicals, batteries, and paint. If these items enter our water source and are not treated properly they come right back to the tap. She also says that simple actions such as reporting water leaks when found can significantly impact water conservation efforts.
Hudlemeyer urges us to reflect on water's significance in our lives and our duty to protect it, not only on Imagine a Day Without Water but every day.
