Holder talks transportation industry with Arkansas Money & Politics

Holder

Large infrastructure projects can benefit communities in several ways, including serving as drivers for both short-term and long-term economic development.

Garver Director of Transportation Jerry Holder, PE, has lived by that mantra throughout a career that has spanned more than three decades. Recently, Holder sat down with Arkansas Money & Politics for a wide-ranging discussion on the transportation industry, including his most memorable project, Garver’s work with the Arkansas Department of Transportation’s Connecting Arkansas Program, how COVID-19 has impacted the industry, and more.

On economic development, Holder said “infrastructure is truly a catalyst to economic development and the creation of jobs. … We need new companies that manufacture products or develop software or create wealth to move to Arkansas and to make the economic pie bigger, so all of us benefit.”

On the importance of Arkansas voters passing Issue 1: “ARDOT will have the needed funds to continue to improve our roadway system to make it one of the best in the nation for safety and the movement of goods and services.”

And on how the pandemic has impacted Garver and the industry: “We are fortunate that the transportation/infrastructure industry is considered an essential service. America has to keep goods and services moving. That meant our clients kept our projects moving forward. We are able to work from home and collaborate through our technology and haven’t missed a deadline.”
