American Concrete Pavement Association honors Oklahoma Turnpike Authority’s Gilcrease Expressway project with award

Garver collaborated with the OTA, City of Tulsa, Tulsa County, INCOG, and ODOT to deliver this landmark project.

The American Concrete Pavement Association (ACPA) selected OTA’s Gilcrease Expressway project for an award in the Urban Divided Highways category, one of 14 awards categories for hundreds of nominated projects from across the country.

The Gilcrease Expressway project was delivered as one of six major transportation infrastructure projects meant to support population growth, reduce congestion, and improve road safety. Garver collaborated with the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority (OTA), City of Tulsa, Tulsa County, Indian Nations Council of Governments (INCOG), and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) to deliver this landmark project.

In the planning stages for over 50 years, the Gilcrease Expressway project was announced as part of OTA’s Driving Forward program in 2015. Ground was broken in 2017 and construction was completed earlier this year.

“I’m pleased to see this project come to fruition and honored to have Garver’s design project be recognized by ACPA,” said Garver Director of Transportation Brent Schniers, PE. “I’m even more pleased to know that this project is making a positive difference for people traveling in Oklahoma, a state that Garver’s been proudly serving for the past 30 years.”

Garver provided roadway and bridge design, traffic services, traffic analysis and projections, and environmental services for the project located in Tulsa County, starting at the I-44 and I-244 interchange and leading northwest to L.L. Tisdale Parkway, effectively completing the western loop around the Tulsa metro area. Design work included eight lane miles of mainline highway, two new interchanges, two interchange modifications, and 26 bridge structures.

A Garver project was also honored by the ACPA in 2019, when work on the Future U.S. Highway 412 Bypass in Springdale, Arkansas was named a silver winner in the Rural Divided Highways category.
