Porras-Mendoza and Boysen honored with AMTA Awards
One Water Practice Leader Yuliana Porras-Mendoza and Process Team Leader Buddy Boysen, PE, PMP, were each honored with service awards at this year’s Membrane Technology Conference & Exposition, hosted by the American Membrane Technology Association and the American Water Works Association in Knoxville, Tennessee.
In being honored with the AMTA Distinguished Service Award, Porras-Mendoza was recognized for her dedication to the organization while with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, while Boysen was recognized for his time on the AMTA Board of Directors. The awards honor outstanding performance by individuals and companies furthering AMTA’s mission to advance the understanding and use of membrane technology to treat municipal, industrial, commercial, agricultural, and waste waters.
“Throughout my career, I’ve focused my research on innovative technologies, such as membranes,” said Porras-Mendoza. “At Garver, we are always looking at ways to diversify how we approach projects to better serve clients and look at challenges through a new lens. I’m proud to be recognized for this work.”

One Water Practice Leader
Porras-Mendoza has spent her career delivering on her passion of sharing information and collaborating across the industry to create a community of practice leaders in work that spans reuse, water and wastewater treatment, stormwater, planning, forecasting, and other critical areas of the industry. One major contribution to AMTA is the creation of the AMTA/Reclamation Fellowship Program that offers fellowships to students conducting innovative research in membranes.
“Operators are the backbone of our industry, helping to ensure that they have the skills they need to run these very advanced systems is often the catalyst for our industry to expand and gain acceptance."
Process Team Leader
“For 25 years I’ve made operators the focal point of my career,” said Boysen, a former produced water treatment plant operator and certified membrane system SME with TCEQ, who provides operator training to plant operators through SCMA. “Operators are the backbone of our industry, helping to ensure that they have the skills they need to run these very advanced systems is often the catalyst for our industry to expand and gain acceptance. I’ve used my time with AMTA to help develop new workshops, educational materials and training opportunities. It’s an honor to be acknowledged for these efforts.”
Boysen has more than two decades of experience focusing on innovative treatment technologies for water and wastewater facilities, specializing in membrane treatment technology. In addition to the seat he held with AMTA, he also is a board member and Secretary of their affiliate South Central Membrane Association (SCMA) where he is focused on membrane system operator training.
