Sober honored for long-time service to WEAT

Garver Texas Water Director Jeff Sober was recognized last week for his long record of service and commitment to the Water Environment Association of Texas, an organization that aims to advance professional growth for water professionals and educate the public on water quality issues.

For his continued personal service in the water quality field, WEAT presented Sober with the Arthur Sidney Bedell Award. Sober accepted the award during the Texas Water Conference last week in San Antonio, Texas.

“I’m honored to receive this award and join a class of other leaders recognized for their dedication to the advancement of the water quality industry,” Sober said. “WEAT does so much to educate the public on the value of investing in water infrastructure. We will continue our mission to advance the organization through membership growth and public outreach.”

Sober, based in Garver’s Frisco, Texas office, has held numerous state and section leadership roles with WEAT, including a one-year term as president that expired during last week’s conference. He has also served as vice president and president of WEAT’s North Texas Section, among other roles.

Sober’s award and the conclusion of his one-year term as WEAT president was just a part of Garver’s involvement in the Texas Water Conference, the region’s largest gathering of water and wastewater industry leaders that drew more than 6,500 attendees, a conference record.

Garver Texas Water Business Planning Manager Heather Wootton was inducted into the Select Society of Sanitary Sludge Shovelers during the conference. The 5S society was founded in 1940 to encourage members to get involved and induction is based on outstanding service that goes beyond the call of duty.

Garver’s water experts lead 10 technical presentations, organized the Operations Challenge Competition, competed in a Student Design competition with a team from Tarleton State University mentored by Senior Project Manager Tina Hanson, moderated technical sessions, judged competitions, and raced in the Dodson’s Drive Fun Run 5k.
