Garver Launch class preps for careers in engineering

Each year, Garver Launch provides Garver interns with on-the-job experiences from offices across the country designed to prepare them for future careers in engineering and other fields.

This year, even though the Launch experience was different due to COVID-19, 46 new and returning interns from 25 different universities went above and beyond to provide innovative infrastructure solutions and professional services.

Courtney Andrews spent the summer working on a variety of projects from the Norman, Oklahoma office.

Whether they were working remotely, in the office, or in the field, interns built their skills as they worked on challenging and diverse projects in Garver’s AssetMax, Aviation, Construction Services, Facilities Design, Transportation, and Water business lines.

Due to the impact of COVID-19, the Garver Launch committee and Garver employees were all the more invested in ensuring interns felt connected to teammates and had a valuable and comprehensive internship.

Courtney Andrews, who will be a senior at Oklahoma State University, spent her summer with Launch in Garver’s Norman office.

“Even in midst of these entirely unexpected circumstances, everyone was able to keep a positive attitude and ensure that each intern received a remarkable experience,” Andrews said.

During her three months with Garver, Andrews was pleased she was able to work on a wide variety of projects alongside engineers on the Oklahoma Water Team. One of Andrews’ favorite projects was serving the community of Enid through her work on the Vance Air Force Base Water Distribution System Improvements Project.

In all, Andrews considered Garver Launch a fantastic opportunity, while developing knowledge that adds to her classroom education. The Launch experience has helped her feel confident that she will be an instant contributor on an engineering team following her graduation in May 2021.

“Garver Launch allowed me to experience the inner workings of an engineering firm and gain firsthand experience all while I was still in school,” she said. “I now have a more concrete idea of what I might do after college. I want to thank everyone at Garver that I have had the pleasure to interact with this summer!”
