This year Garver celebrates 95 years of doing business. Neal Garver began our firm in 1919 and over the years it's grown from just a couple of people to over 350 today. I recently had the opportunity to sit down with all the living former presidents of our company—Sanford Wilbourn, Bill Driggers, Ted Hannah, and Ron Pierce—and we discussed what makes Garver the company it is.
A few things are clear: 1. Garver has always approached engineering with a can-do attitude, whether that means designing an intermodal bridge or extending an airport runway. 2. Garver has always built relationships while building infrastructure. We do the kind of work that retains clients beyond a single project. 3. Garver has never compromised its values for the sake of profit.
In our recent meeting, Bill mentioned a client told him decades ago that they selected Garver for their job because we'd refused to deal under the table. We wouldn't do it then, and we won't do it now. The company we're running today is a company Mr. Garver would still be proud to have his name on. The principles Garver had when I started working here in 1982 are the principles we still have.
As Garver approaches the century mark, I thank those who came before us for setting the bar so high, I thank our employees for continuing to consistently deliver high-quality designs, and I thank our clients for placing their trust in us. These are exciting times, and we wouldn't be here without you.
