The State Highway 20 (SH-20) corridor and river crossing, located east of US-169 in Rogers County, Oklahoma, was a two-lane roadway crossing in front of Keetonville Hill and over the Verdigris River. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) wanted to improve the safety and traffic flow in the area and remove the “at-risk” condition of the bridge.
ODOT selected Garver to provide preliminary engineering, environmental investigations and documentation; to manage public involvement; and to produce final construction plans.
Garver provided the final design and led the reconstruction of approximately four miles of SH-20 utilizing a 5-lane roadway section, the excavation of over 1.5 million cubic yards of rock, and the construction of a new 600-foot bridge structure over the Verdigris River.
This realignment of SH-20 will provide for improved traffic flow, safer travel and lower long-term maintenance costs for the Department.
This project won an American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) National Recognition Award in the 2024 Engineering Excellence Awards competition.
