WTS Mississippi Names Garver Employer of the Year

Garver was recently named Employer of the Year by the Mississippi chapter of WTS, an international organization dedicated to the advancement of women in the transportation industry. With nominations made by WTS members, the award recognizes outstanding contributions and support of the advancement of women and minorities in the transportation field.

“WTS is devoted to women’s professional development, and we share their vision for equity and access for women in transportation,” said Garver Transportation Project Manager Wayne Black, PE. “This recognition acknowledges Garver’s continuing commitment to creating an environment where all employees can grow and thrive.”

Supporting women in transportation is more than just a catchphrase; it’s a value Garver puts into action. Garver enables women to pursue careers in engineering through multiple avenues, whether it be initiatives such as the Transportation Mentoring Program or the tuition reimbursement program. Garver also promotes professional development and, through an internal group, Garver Connect, provides support and connection for Garver’s women by sponsoring companywide events that highlight Garver’s female leaders and contributions. In addition, Garver places a high priority on encouraging the involvement of women in professional organizations, with many of them holding officer positions or serving on committees at both the local section and state level.

Garver has also sought to change the makeup of the mostly male-dominated engineering field by hosting a number of programs aimed at broadening the talent pipeline and encouraging young women to take an interest in STEM fields. These initiatives have ranged from Garver Launch, the firm’s comprehensive internship program, to programs conducted through GarverGives, the firm’s corporate giving program.
