WTS Mississippi honors Garver as Employer of the Year, names Wayne Black Man of the Year

WTS Mississippi Employer of the Year

The Mississippi chapter of WTS has again recognized Garver’s commitment to advancing women in transportation by naming the firm Employer of the Year during its 5th Anniversary Celebration. In addition, the chapter honored Garver Roadway Practice Leader Wayne Black as Man of the Year for his leadership and advocacy.

Garver played an instrumental role in founding the WTS Mississippi chapter and continues to lead efforts that create opportunities for women in transportation. The Employer of the Year award, nominated by WTS members, recognizes organizations that demonstrate exceptional support for the advancement of women and minorities in the industry.

Garver remains committed to creating pathways for women to succeed. Through initiatives like Garver Launch, the firm’s internship program, and outreach efforts via GarverGives, its corporate giving program, Garver broadens the talent pipeline and inspires young women to pursue STEM careers. Additional benefits, such as tuition reimbursement, provide further opportunities for women to advance in engineering.

Garver also prioritizes professional development, mentorship, and connection through Garver Connect, an internal group that sponsors companywide events highlighting female leaders and their contributions. Externally, Garver encourages active involvement in professional associations, with many women serving as officers or committee members at both local and state levels.

Wayne Black has made a significant impact in advancing women in transportation — both within Garver and across the industry—through mentorship, organizational initiatives, and outreach efforts. His leadership helped establish Garver as a founding member of the WTS Mississippi chapter, and he's remained a consistent and vocal advocate for breaking down barriers to pave the way for future female leaders.

“I’m honored and grateful to be named Man of the Year by an organization that I deeply value and respect,” said Black. “This recognition underscores Garver’s dedication to supporting and empowering women to lead, make meaningful contributions, and shape the future of transportation. I’m humbled to be part of a team that champions these values every day.”
