Future Highway 412 Bypass opens in Springdale

Motorists traveling through a thriving Northwest Arkansas now have another option for navigating the area thanks to the opening of the future U.S. Highway 412 Bypass in Benton County.

Several Garver representatives, including Transportation Design Manager Glynn Fulmer, Program Controls Manager Mark Schwartz, Director of Construction Services Earl Mott, Bridge Design Manager John Ruddell, Roadway Team Leader John Cantabery, and Construction Services Team Leader Seth Yancey joined Arkansas Department of Transportation and elected officials at a ribbon-cutting April 18 for the 412 Bypass, a 4 ½-mile, four-lane controlled access facility that connects I-49 and Highway 112 in Springdale.

“Benton County is one of the fastest growing counties in the country in terms of population, so an additional option to access this area has been desired for some time,” Fulmer said. “Garver’s Roadway and Bridge teams combined to provide what we hope is a user-friendly facility that will benefit the area for a long, long time.”

Garver provided design services for the project, which included roadway and bridge design. The highway project was a part of ARDOT’s Connecting Arkansas Program, a 10-year program being managed by Garver and financed by a voter-approved, half-cent sales tax that includes 36 highway improvement projects across the state.

The project, which opens to motorists next week, alleviates congestion in the state’s fastest-growing metropolitan area by an east-west connector of I-49 and State Highway 112, which provides access to the Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport. Garver’s role in the project included the design of 10 bridges – including two over Spring Creek and two over Wagon Wheel Road – four overpasses, and three interchange ramps.
