Enhancing Safety and Efficiency at MCI with New Virtual Ramp Control System
Garver provided design and construction services for the installation of a new Virtual Ramp Control System (VRCS) at Kansas City International Airport (MCI). By providing instructions and advisory information to flight crews and ground crews, VRCS operators will virtually manage and control the safe and expeditious movement of air carrier aircraft traversing the non-movement areas including to and from the new terminal gates, RON parking, and the deicing ramp areas.
The project included a new virtual ramp control room, equipment room, multi-camera monitoring tower/housing assembles, electrical power and control, mechanical systems, fiber optic and copper communication systems, antenna systems, conduit, cabling, and appurtenance at the new terminal and existing Terminals B and C.
Responsibilities included: coordinating the design with the current new terminal construction; providing guidance to the terminal contractor for control/equipment room improvements required; upgrading and integrating a new Airfield Lighting Control and Monitoring System (ALCMS) computer node inside the virtual ramp control room specifically for ramp lighting control during ADG III and V aircraft movement operations; and providing project schedules during design and construction to ensure VRCS project commissioning matching the opening of the new terminal.
