Miami Municipal Airport Terminal Facility Design

Improving passenger and pilot experience

The main objective of the Miami Municipal Airport (MIO) Terminal Facility Design is to deliver a new, approximately 4,000-square-foot terminal building that is updated, larger, and more aesthetically attractive.

The existing terminal is limited in its ability to handle passenger capacity, has limited pilot prep resources, and is not ADA compliant. The new terminal was developed to address those issues and thereby attract more people in the community to utilize the facility.

A new entryway to the facility will expedite passengers’ flight experience both to and from the airport, enhancing overall satisfaction and reducing wait times. Clearly defined spaces and newer facilities will not only better accommodate pilots and passengers but also improve operational efficiency and safety standards. The reuse of existing infrastructure wherever possible minimizes cost, promotes environmental sustainability, and adds significant value to the community.

The terminal building will be located south of the existing terminal and will share the existing parking lot. Additionally, the project will provide entryway pavement, drainage, and utility improvements from Rex Plott Road to the new terminal footprint. Professional services will include project management and grant administration, surveying, environmental, design, and bidding services for design of the new terminal facility. The project is a multi-grant funded project using FAA, state, and local funds.
