With the City of Conway's recent rapid population growth, traffic congestion has become a problem within the city limits. In the $30 million first phase of this multi-phased project, Garver designed the southern interchange with I-40 and a connection to Sturgis Road. The one-of-a-kind project includes bridges over an interstate, railroad, state highway, and a local road.
In the design process, considerations had to be made for environmental constraints as the site location was surrounded by multiple influencing factors. A lake and wetlands area sits next to the site, a busy railroad line passes through, and there is lots of commercial and residential development in the area.
The project will reduce the vehicle miles traveled within the city, meaning not only will there be less traffic, but citizens will be spending less time in their cars, which results in more leisure time and less vehicle emissions.
"The project brought to reality the concept that was envisioned by the people of Conway and will add another interchange for our city," said City Engineer Ronnie Hall. Garver was the project leader on the project for the planning, design, ROW with acquisition, and now the company is providing construction observation services for a portion of the project.
"Garver has been a good teammate and leader to have on a project of this magnitude. The project ran smoothly from the design, to the right of way acquisition, and into the construction."
