Design-Build Project
For more than 80 years, the south-bound Fairfax Bridge and north-bound Platte Purchase Bridge serviced Kansas City on both sides of the Missouri River, feeding traffic in and out of the region’s most thriving industrial districts. When those bridges needed to be replaced, Garver and American Bridge Company teamed up in a design-build project for one U.S. 69 bridge, which provided the area with a low-maintenance, four-lane, river crossing that connects Platte County, Missouri with Wyandotte County, Kansas. The new structure has a 100-year life expectancy, assuring it will be as beneficial to the area as the previous.

By going with the Garver Team instead of the next lowest bidder MoDOT will save $4 million. And the long-term economic benefits are significant as the bridge will accommodate traffic from the nearby industrial district to access the interstate.Blake Blakemore Garver Bridge Team Leader
