As design for the taxiway support system for Runway 18L-36R approached—the fourth and final phase of the Group VI Improvements project—it became clear that the project’s original intention could be improved. Garver assisted the airport with developing and assessing alternatives for Runway 18L-36R access. As a result, the airport pursued construction of a new, Group VI-capable parallel taxiway for the runway, while preserving the existing parallel taxiway for use by air carrier and general aviation operations. Because of its scope, Phase 4 of the Group VI Improvements project was divided into five additional elements. In preparation, and for FAA concurrence, Garver assisted the Huntsville-Madison County Airport Authority with updating the project’s cost-benefit analysis and conducting an Environmental Assessment, which resulted in FAA issuing a Finding of No Significant Impact.
