Urban living on the site of a former mall
MidCity District is a 100-acre mixed-use development on the site of a former regional mall in the booming tech hub of Huntsville. Garver has been providing design services for both the city and developer for public improvements and private development sites to create a cohesive and vibrant neighborhood. New streets include on-street parking, bike lanes, and dense landscaping to encourage walkability. A strong emphasis on plants which are durable in north Alabama’s climate, along with a creative use of building materials in open spaces, enhance the placemaking aspect of the design program. Small garden-like open spaces feature surprises such as tranquil fountains, seating areas, and bespoke design elements like firepits and architectural seating nodes, adding to the unique feel of this growing neighborhood.
