The world’s longest pedestrian bridge used only for recreational purposes serves as a highlight to the 14-mile Arkansas River Trail. Garver provided design services for the 4,122-foot-long Big Dam Bridge, constructed with spans varying from rolled beams to curved plate girder beams. The bridge connects two ends of the trail while sitting above the Murray Lock and Dam over the Arkansas River. The 14-foot-wide deck, about 90 feet above the river at its highest point, provides ample room for cyclists, joggers, and dog walkers, while a collection of LED lights provides a colorful display each evening for the more than 10,000 yearly visitors.
