McConnell Air Force Base Airfield Drainage Study

Drainage Design Solutions to Improve Safety and Readiness

Garver provided design services including investigation, maintenance studies, and improvement recommendations for airfield storm drainage structures, piping, and channels. The goal of this project was to eliminate ponded water on the airfield pavement that affects airfield operations and attracts birds, increasing chances of aircraft bird strikes. A hydrologic and hydraulic analysis was conducted to evaluate existing airfield storm drainage structures, piping, and channels. Areas of ponding and inadequate drainage were identified, and updates were proposed to alleviate these problem areas included increased inlet sizes, channel grading and widening, and upsized pipes. Garver developed 30% plans and construction costs estimates based on the study recommendations.
