Ignite 2022 sets interns up for success

For first-time interns, Ignite is an introduction to Garver and our work culture, as well as our industry. The two-day event is filled with information, activities, and networking for interns across all business lines and regions.

This year, the event brought almost 70 interns from 22 offices and nine states to Frisco, Texas, to learn about company leadership, history, and signature projects while bonding over team-building with arcade games, food, and bowling.

Day One began with a welcome from Communications Director Laura Nick, who discussed the company’s 103-year history and how that history helped prepare the company for future success. In addition to lessons on professional development, interns also heard from representatives from across several of Garver’s business lines – Transportation, Aviation, Water, Facilities – who offered presentations and opportunities for discussion.

Day Two kicked off with a game led by Wellness Program Manager Whitney Gorsegner followed by more panel discussions and an opportunity for interns to speak directly with executive leadership.

“Ignite is one of my favorite events of the year,” said Garver President and CEO Brock Hoskins. “Many of these interns represent the future of Garver and our industry, and the enthusiasm they bring to this event – and to the Garver Nation throughout their time here – reminds me of my intern experience at Garver back in the late 1980s. Though they are motivated to excel, many aren’t sure what type of career they specifically want to pursue. Our job as leaders is to give them the opportunity to discover what they are passionate about.”
