At Fort Sam Houston, a post credited as the Home of Military Medicine, Garver provided design services to convert a vacant building into a vehicle maintenance facility.
Located in San Antonio, Texas, the 24,000-square-foot renovation transformed the uninhabited building into an interim Tactical Equipment Maintenance Facility for battalions to maintain and repair U.S. Army vehicles such as Humvees.
The 12-bay building, which was completely renovated as part of the project, can house 24 vehicles. In addition, the structure provides military personnel with administrative areas, equipment and parts storage, and critical vehicle maintenance space.
Working with The Ross Group on this design-build project, Garver's structural, mechanical and electrical engineers designed improvements to install a standing-seam metal roof, metal wall panels, insulation, lighting, HVAC, vehicle exhaust systems and life safety systems such as fire sprinkler, fire alarm and mass notification.
Garver also designed major utility upgrades that included storm drainage to alleviate water problems in the area, an 8-inch gravity sewer main with manholes to accommodate the addition of bathrooms, water service to integrate with the fire protection systems, electrical components, and communication service and infrastructure.
